Improv doesn’t just come from out of nowhere.
What many people don’t realize is that improvising is a skill. Skills are learned and practiced. Skills take time and repetition, patience, trying and failing.

“Did she just say the F word??”
Yup.
And that’s what I love most about improv acting and vocal improvisation. The point isn’t to “get it right,” the point is to DO SOMETHING and then keep going, no matter what happens. It teaches us how to accept what is and to take that next step to continue making music. (Life lessons, anyone?)
I’ve been thinking a lot about improvisation as I prepare for another workshop with Cathedral Park Performing Arts Collective next week. I’ve been reflecting on why I love improv SO DOGGONE MUCH (it’s a lot, people!) and what might be keeping others from experiencing this joy.
The answer I keep coming back to? Perfection and fear of…here it comes…FAILURE.
So, if your first response when you read this is, “Vocal improv? That sounds scary—no thanks! Not for me!” then this workshop might actually be exactly what you need.
There is freedom in trying and failing. And there is healing in doing it together in a safe space with others who are learning and growing alongside us.
If you're looking to give yourself a little space and permission to mess up, to try new things, and to not worry about getting it "right," then I highly recommend improv. It'll do wonders for your ego, your self-confidence, and your ability to trust yourself and others.
XOXO

Based on the vocal style and teaching of singing greats such as Rhiannon and Bobby McFerrin, this workshop will guide you through the foundational steps to becoming a vocal improviser.
This workshop is for you whether you are new to vocal improv or a seasoned improvisor. It’s also for you if you attended my workshop in December. I will guide you through the concepts from that workshop while adding modifications for those who are ready to step up their vocal improv game.
